This project was part of a larger renovation
project in the country side town of Montagu
in the Klein Karoo South Africa. Not being
able to find a suitable steel contractor to do
detailed work I decided to include this staircase
in the project as a design and supply
product taking the responsibility for the
manufacturing and installation. The staircase
consisted of a set of laser cut and folded mild
steel parts bolted to a standard H-column
and to 30mm bamboo plywood treads.
The 3D models below are examples from
experimental paper designs in the past exploring
the possibilities around laser cut, water jet and
cnc folded part assemblies. These designs were
made before 2005 when digital fabrication and
parametric software were new technologies.
