Buffelsdrift Staircase
This staircase forms part of the bigger Buffelsdrift
renovation project. The staircase give access in a
living unit from the lower open plan kitchen and lounge
to a higher mezanine level . The original building was
an old tobacco store adapted to a living unit with now
a slightly higher roof. The staircase is a stand-alone
unit touching the old building discreetly. The backbone
of the structure is a steel frame with tensioned bright
mild rods supporting each individual French oak tread
at the back and front. Decorative American oak screen
elements cut according to 3 different templates by CNC
are randomly fixed to the cables creating a screened wall.
The wood treads has bright mild steel protection strips
beveled at the toes edge with neatly placed bolt holes.
